We Connect, in partnership with the South African Wind Energy Association and South African Photovoltaic Industry Association, are launching a mentorship program for gender diversity to address the underrepresentation of women in renewable energy in South Africa.
The We Connect Mentorship Program aims to empower women, and bridge the gap between male and female perspectives on equality and gender diversity. The pilot programme is administered by KD Strategies and Paula Quinsee, business coach extraordinaire.
The six-month mentorship program is in full swing for the 22 participants. Female mentees are paired with a senior female and male mentors to form 1-to-1 mentee-mentor relationships. Senior female mentors are also paired with senior male mentors to form 1-to-1 reciprocating mentorship relationships. Touchpoint events have covered the topics of courageous conversations, time management and imposter syndrome. Mentees and mentors continue to meet regularly to work towards their goals.
A core value of the program is to promote the concept of giving back so that mentors and mentees can act as connectors to expand, grow, and showcase the female talent/leaders in the Renewable Energy industry.
Although the mentorship program refers to male/female - it is inclusive of all.
